Majesty

For the third time, I saw red-shouldered hawk while I was running in the neighborhood today. It is amazing creature and surprising to see in the city neighborhood. The photos below are taken when I saw the same kind of hawk in some other neighborhood.

Switching to Morning

Lately I've been going running in the evening. I made the switch today to the morning running.

I like morning runners. In general, morning runners are more friendly. When I passes other runners on my way, they do a few things that evening runners don't.

1.make an eye contact with you.
2 give a smile to you.
3 raise a hand.
4 say 'good morning' as she/he passes you.
5 make you want to do the same

This is true in general. I had been running both in the evening and in the morning, and I see it every time i make a switch.

Today it was too late in the morning of subtropical summer, when the sun and the temperature was already too high. Short distance felt like forever. I knew I was overheated. I just run into the bathroom and poor running water on my head. Next time I'd better go earlier before sun comes up the horizon.

Priceless

A research organization in Nara began a process of restoring historical manuscripts that was damaged by the water of tsunami 3 months ago. A tube of 1.8m in diameter and 6m in length, this world largest device of its kind freezes the soaked documents in minus 40 degree Celsius, then dry them. They say this way the sheets of papers will not stick together and can be easily separated and makes restoration easier and safer. It's quite interesting for what we would do for pieces of paper. Something is priceless. Fukushima officials decided to provide radiation detectors to all the local children under age 15. One interviewee was saying in the news report that "more important is to move all the schools and children out of the area and that should be government and municipality's priority." It would not make any difference to know what radiation level where you are right now, if you can't leave the place, would it? The device won't tell the kids which direction or how far they should run away to...

Kizuna

The news come from Hukushima almost everyday. The news has been reminding us that someone is working hard dealing with the situations on-site everyday. One day watching sunset and the ever-changing colors of sky while I was running, I wondered whether the workers have even a little bit of space in their mind to look up the sky and watch the sunset.

New video of inside the power plants was released by the electric power company today. In a scene of inside the power plants, many workers in white special suits were moving quickly and strictly.

Also in the clips, a letter of supporting message and one-thousand-cranes origami crafts wishing workers' safely returns to their home were displayed in the most visible place in the control center. In the letter with the message was a big red Japanese calligraphic character of 'Kizuna' which represents the bonds of people around the world.

Mistake

I made a big mistake today. I went to run in the evening. I started feeling pain in my knee soon after I started running. I check my running form. Still had pain in my left knee. I slowed down even more. Still had the pain in my left knee. I walked.

I looked up the night sky. Feeling the pain of the mistake I made. I didn't want to feel sorry about it nor for myself. I started running again. I ran very fast as if I was running away from a chasing dog.

It's weired that I'm running very fast so easily, so relaxed. I'm not panting. I don't feel pain in my left knee anymore. I feel thankful that I can run like this. I feel peaceful. Maybe I just thought I might have made a mistake. Maybe I could learn something from this even if it was actually a mistake.

Ring of Rainbow

This has been rainy weekend. My friend is participating half iron man race today. Wishing his best, I thought I'd do my part and I'd do my half marathon. I ran 21.6km. I usually go running in the morning or in the evening when the air is cooler and the sun is not high. I went around noon today instead, when it was supposed to be couple hours of clear sky between raining.

Just 2 km away from where I was supposed to finish, I was crossing on the bridge. Approaching at the top of the bridge, I saw a bridge operator, outside of his operator's room, was looking up the sky and pointing his camera up into the sky.

I looked up, then I saw a complete circular ring of rainbow around the sun in the middle of the sky covered by thin and wide clouds. I wouldn't have noticed it if I didn't see him, because the sun and the rainbow was above my head. I stopped and chat a little bit about it with him and I left. While I kept running back, I kept looking up once in a while to see the ring of the rainbow around the sun.

About 10 minutes later when I came back to where I parked my car, the ring of the rainbow was still there. It disappeared minutes later.

Start

Two months has passed since the earthquake.

Japanese government started reviewing their energy policy. In previous plan, the country was aiming to increase the energy supply by nuclear plants from current 30% to over 50% by 2030. The new plan will promote more renewable energy such as solar, wind and biomass and encourage further energy conservation.

As part of the road to the recovery, the change for the future generation had begun.
